Brocade fabrics are a type of shuttle-woven textiles often made with metallic threads. Because of their decorative appearance, these fabrics are highly popular among fashion designers. Brocade is used to make special occasion garments and evening gowns. Originally it was made of silk, but today you can find it in all kinds of fibers.
What does brocade fabric feel like?
Brocade is smooth and lustrous. Great for evening wear, wedding gowns, costumes and more. brocade has a great soft texture. It can be used for semi-formal and informal wear, office suits, jackets and blazers. Brocade can be used for a million different things. Back in the day, brocade was a stiff, starchy fabric because its original use was for upholstery. However, it evolved into the fashion fabric we see today.
Is brocade natural or synthetic?
Brocade can be either natural or synthetic depending on the materials used in production. When woven with either silk or cotton, then the fabric is natural as these fabrics are naturally occurring and not one fabricated by humans.
How is brocade fabric made?
Brocade fabric is created using the technique of ‘jacquarding’. Jacquarding is the process in which a background weave (eg silk) is imprinted with a tightly woven design on top of it, resulting in the embossed or embroidered look of a brocade.
